Stuart, FL – On March 29th, construction commenced on a sidewalk extension project on SE Florida Street and along CR-A1A (SE Dixie Highway). The project follows previously completed sidewalk extension improvements to SE Kindred St., SE Johnson Ave., and S. Colorado Ave. and is expected to be completed in August 2021.
For construction of the project, the City received a $162,963.00 grant from the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP). Martin County and the City of Stuart have agreed to cooperate in the implementation of the project, whereby the County will be utilizing its Local Agency Program (LAP) certification and eligibility to participate in the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) LAP grant program on the City’s behalf.
The project consists of constructing a sidewalk along SE Florida Street from NW Dixie Highway to SE Johnson Ave., and a sidewalk along NW Dixie Hwy. from SE 6th St. to SE 5th St. These two segments of sidewalk will provide pedestrian connectivity with the recently completed SE Kindred St. / SE Johnson Ave. improvements, as well as, the completed SE Dixie Hwy. Beautification and Sidewalks project.
Construction work will require intermittent lane shifts/closures and streets may also be partially closed during posted working hours. However, the contractor is required to allow access to driveways when it is safe and feasible. Residents are advised to help keep the area adjacent to the project readily accessible so that work may be complete in a timely manner. Final restoration will be completed by the contractor as soon as possible.
