Motor Oil Disposal

How can I properly dispose of used motor oil?

Used motor oil should never be poured on the ground, in a storm drain, or down the drain. Proper disposal may be accomplished with two easy options.

  • You may drop off used motor oil and many other household hazardous wastes at the Martin County Hazardous Waste Mobile. This service is FREE and available for all Martin County residents. For the Hazardous Household Waste Mobil Program Schedule, click here Hazardous Household Waste Mobil Program.

  • Contact your local auto supply store to see if they accept used motor oil.

Some jobs around the home may require the use of products containing hazardous components such as certain paints, cleaners, stains and varnishes, car batteries, motor oil, and pesticides. The unused contents of such consumer products are known as "household hazardous waste."
